My 2024 in Music

Writer's picture: Frosti JonssonFrosti Jonsson

The year 2024 has been both innovative and productive in music, involving numerous projects and collaborations. I completed an album, contributed to a few compilation albums, and released several singles. I performed in Reykjavik and Kamnik (Slovenia) with my close friend X.U.L (Gasper Selko), which was undoubtedly one of the year's highlights. Here's what unfolded:

Zombie (Single)

The year began with a remake (cover) of the Cranberries' classic "Zombie" alongside my longtime collaborator Bjartmar. Since our first album release in 2018 (the EP album "Broken"), we've been writing and releasing several singles. This project was enjoyable, and we hope we did the song justice.

Reflections Vol.02

Reflections Vol.02 by Möller Records includes tracks Tundra I, II, and III by Bistro Boy. As the second edition in a series highlighting Möller Records artists, Reflections Vol.02 provides a captivating sound experience and an extraordinary musical journey.

My Hearth Of Noise (Remix)

Mælifell is a collaborative remix album and a transformation of Elif Yalvaç’s 2023 album My Heart Of Noise. Mælifell features artists from various countries including Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Armenia, UK, and Turkey: ILKAMA, Hurtnopain, Nacite, Bananafish, Runar Magnusson, Bistro Boy, Metehan Köktürk and Arus. My contribution was a remix of the title song, My Heart Of Noise.

Live in Reykjavik and Kamik

Performing live in Reykjavik (Iceland) and Kamnik (Slovenia) with X.U.L (Gasper Selko) was undoubtedly one of the year's highlights. This trip was an incredible experience. Our opening show in Reykjavik was held at Kaldalón, a stunning venue within the Harpa Music and Conference Hall. A week later, we performed in Kamnik, X.U.L's hometown, at Dom Kulture Kamnik.

From a Distance / Dont Ever Stop Dreaming (Singles)

From a distance was the second single me and Bjartmar released this year followed with our third single Dont Ever Stop Dreaming.

Reflections Vol.03

Reflections Vol.3 is a four tracks EP featuring Bistro Boy, Steve Sampling, Subminimal and Duv Tales. Reflections Vol.3, an invitation to explore the sound of four artists and refreshing "departure from the ordinary and a deep dive into the extraordinary".

Ambient Short Stories (album)

Ambient Short Stories, an 11 track album, was released September 9th, an effort to explore the path of ambient music and take listeners on an immersive sonic adventure filled with evolving musical landscapes and captivating sound narratives. Up these Hills (Video)

I was extremely lucky to collaborate with the gifted Jakob Thor, a promising film director from Reykjavik, and contemporary dancer Sara Lind Gudndottir. The outcome was this beautiful piece of art, Up These Hills.

Our Word (Remix)

What an enjoyable way to conclude the year with a remix release from one of my favorite Icelandic artists, gusgus. The original track is from the gusgus album Mobile Home, which came out in 2021. Director, writer, producer, editor of original video: Arni & Kinski. Production company: Dýrlingur.
